Rent Collection

Switched on per tenancy, once a tenancy exists

Hand over the monthly chase. We collect the rent, reconcile payments and tell you the moment something is late.

What you get

  • Rent collected on the due date and passed to you
  • Arrears chased from the first missed payment
  • A statement of every payment in and out
  • Held in a designated client account

Rent collection is arranged against a specific tenancy rather than ordered as a one-off job, because it runs every month and has to know which tenant owes what. You will find the switch on the tenancy itself, under Tenancies in your dashboard.

Handling a landlord's money means holding client money, which requires membership of an approved client money protection scheme. Until that membership is in place the option stays switched off, and we say so rather than taking the money.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not order this?

Collecting rent means holding client money, which requires membership of an approved client money protection scheme. Until that is in place the service stays switched off.

What is client money protection?

A government-approved scheme that compensates landlords and tenants if a firm holding their money misappropriates it. Membership is compulsory for property agents in England handling client money.

Can I still collect rent myself?

Yes, and most landlords letting directly do. Rent paid straight from tenant to landlord never becomes client money and needs no scheme at all.
